The Battle of Plassey took place on June 23, 1757, in the vicinity of Plassey (Palashi), Bengal, in present-day India. It was a significant battle during the period of British colonial expansion in India and had far-reaching consequences.
The conflict arose due to the growing influence and power of the British East India Company, which sought to establish its control over Bengal, one of the richest and most populous regions in India. Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab (ruler) of Bengal, opposed the British expansion and besieged the British-held Fort William in Calcutta (Kolkata).
